Leicestershire return to Grace Road on Friday looking to improve on what has been a frustrating start to life back in Division One as Essex make the trip to Leicester.

Promotion last season was always likely to bring tougher tests and sterner opposition, but Leicestershire have shown glimpses of promise in the step up in quality, without yet backing it up and need a win to keep in touch.

The Foxes have generally shown plenty of resilience throughout the campaign. Their batting has produced some significant contributions whilst the bowling attack has repeatedly found ways of keeping them in contests against counties with far greater resources and expectations but ultimately they continue to fall away.

However, they now face an Essex side that appears to be finding form after a difficult start to the season and arrives at Grace Road with ambitions of climbing the Division One table.
