Leicestershire head to Chelmsford this week still searching for their first win of the Rothesay County Championship Division One season after another frustrating outing on the South Coast against Sussex.

There have been encouraging moments for the Foxes throughout the opening period of the campaign, particularly from the opening partnership and through flashes of resilience with both bat and ball, but they are still struggling to put together the complete four-day performance needed to win matches at Division One level.

The batting order remains one of the biggest talking points. While the top order has generally laid decent foundations, there are still questions surrounding the middle-order structure and where skipper Ian Holland best fits into the side. Can Sol Budinger kick-start his season after returning to the side last time around.

There is no sense of crisis just yet, but the Foxes know Division One sides punish inconsistency quickly. Going to Essex represents another major test of whether this squad can establish itself at this level.
