Just when it looked as though Leicestershire had received a timely boost with Ruan de Swardt extending his stay for the remainder of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, the Foxes have been dealt another cruel setback.
The South African all-rounder, who had only recently agreed to remain at Grace Road for the rest of the competition, now looks set to miss the remaining fixtures after suffering a quad injury during the defeat to Nottinghamshire yesterday.
For a side already searching for momentum, it is another obstacle to overcome.
De Swardt had begun to show exactly why Leicestershire were so keen to keep him around. Reliable with the ball, increasingly influential with the bat amid his maiden Foxes century on Sunday and offering invaluable balance to the side, his absence leaves a significant hole in Alfonso Thomas' plans.
