STUMPS: Foxes Red-Ball Struggles Continue in Essex Defeat

Leicestershire were defeated by Essex at Grace Road in Division One of the County Championship over the weekend and yet again it was a tail of two innings, an issue that is very clearly effecting how competitive they can be against sides steeped with class.
A 183-run partnership between Jordan Cox, who hit a magnificent 204, and 97 from former Derbyshire all-rounder Matt Critchley was ultimately the difference between the sides, with the Foxes bundled out for just 187 in their first innings response.
After having been asked to follow-on, a Lewis Hill (127) inspired second innings fightback, gave the home side a brief glimpse of success but a Paul Walter century (110) led Essex to victory on the final day and again left the Foxes looking at what could have been.
