Leicestershire fell to a second consecutive defeat as they went down to Sussex for the second team this season with the South Coast side taking 23 points, leaving the Foxes with lots of work to do already this season.
Another positive start fell by the wayside with the bat as openers Rishi Patel and Jake Weatherald put on 92 for the first wicket but other than captain Ian Holland's defiant 63 and a lower-order half-century for Tom Scriven, the batting disappointed.
Despite two early wickets from loan signing Tom Helm, the batters were put to the sword by Australian overseas Daniel Hughes who was supported well by a Jack Leaning half-century. The Foxes nemesis in wicketkeeper-batter John Simpson, then himself hit another century to put the Foxes well behind in the game.
