Leicestershire have moved quickly to replace Club Captain Peter Handscomb with the signing of Australian Jake Weatherald for the first block of red-ball games.
The Foxes were rocked late last week with the news that promotion-winning skipper would miss the whole of the 2026 season due to family commitments. With a hole needing plugged in the middle-order, it hasn't taken the hierarchy at Grace Road to fill the void left by Handscomb.
Weatherald has seen his stock rise over the past year, culminating in taking his place at the top of the Australian order in this winter's Ashes series, where he scored 201 runs across the five test matches, with a top score of 72.
