Leicestershire’s decision to bring in Tom Helm on a short-term loan from Middlesex County Cricket Club, announced earlier today, feels like more than simple squad cover. It feels like an admission.
An acknowledgement that if the Foxes are to survive — and perhaps eventually thrive — back in Division One, they need something they currently lack: genuine pace and hostility with the ball. With Josh Davey out injured for the upcoming game at Sussex, the club have made they hope could be a spark they need with the ball.
